ABOUT ME

Sarah Zappia, Social Worker &

Passionate Neurodivergence Therapist

I founded Making Strides Allied Health in 2023, after returning to work from maternity leave and reflecting on the kind of support I truly wanted to offer families and young people.

Before this, I spent six years working at Autism SA, where I developed my skills and deepened my passion for supporting autistic children and young people. Creating Making Strides gave me the opportunity to bring together my experience as a therapist and my background as a social worker, and to build a service that feels thoughtful, flexible, and genuinely supportive.

Outside of work, I’m a parent to two young boys, so I understand firsthand how full, messy, and sometimes overwhelming family life can be. I know that self-care isn’t always realistic, and that supporting a child who’s struggling can take a real toll.

Because of this, I care deeply about supporting not just young people, but their parents and caregivers too. My aim is to work alongside you in a way that feels practical, understanding, and grounded in real life—not just theory.

MY APPROACH

What makes me different

I believe that real, lasting change doesn’t happen in just one hour a week—it happens in the environments you’re part of every day.

If you’re a young person, that might mean school, home,

friendships, or just trying to get through daily life when things feel overwhelming. You deserve support that actually fits your world, not something that feels disconnected from it.

If you’re a parent, it can be hard to know how to best support your child across all these different spaces. You don’t have to figure it out alone.

That’s why I work collaboratively with families, schools, and other supports around you. Together, we can create a more understanding and supportive environment—one where you feel safe, heard, and able to grow.

I truly believe it takes a village. Whether I’m working with you as a young person, or alongside you as a parent, my role is to be part of your team—finding ways forward that feel practical, realistic, and right for you.

Making Strides Allied Health acknowledges and honours the Kaurna people of the Adelaide Plains and their land on which we work and connect. We pay respects to the Elders, past, present and emerging. We recognise and respect their relationship with the land and the continuation of cultural, spiritual and educational practices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

We celebrate diversity in all its forms. We believe that inclusivity strengthens communities, fuels innovation, and creates a more compassionate world. Our commitment is to cultivate an environment where everyone—regardless of background, identity, or experience—feels valued, respected, and empowered.

We actively welcome different perspectives and strive to create a space that reflects the richness of the world around us. By embracing diversity, we build stronger connections, break down barriers, and open doors to new opportunities.

Together, we thrive.
